Christmas In The Stars, the Star Wars holiday themed album’s collection of songs, recorded in 1980 at the Power Station in NYC, tells the meaning of Christmas, while droids are busy making toys for S. Claus and C3PO teaches R2D2 how to sing.

Anthony Daniels, the actor and the voice of C3PO, flew over to NYC on the Concord and in one day performed his dialogue and singing, flying back to London in time to perform in the theatre the following night in London’s West End.

Jon Bon Jovi, then Bongiovi, marked his singing debut on the cut “R2D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas” along with Denny’s son, Scot, who sang in the kid’s chorus. The album was recorded at Tony Bongiovi’s studio The Power Station.

At that time Meco was coming on board as a Denny Randell Cos. artist, which would lead to other chart hits and Denny also brought in songwriter Maury Yeston, signed to his company at that time as well, to work with him and Meco on the album.

They worked with George Lucas by phone calls to the studio when all were gathered there and, along with the real live Anthony Daniels who, when on mic, made all the C3PO gestures we’re used to seeing in Star Wars Movies, George gave them his R2D2 and Wookie machines for the album, which were provided by Ben Burt of Lucasfilm.

After the recording was complete Denny traveled to L.A. to meet with Lucas Film and RSO and finalize their business and release plans, including with Al Corey, then head of RSO Records. The album was released several weeks later to an exciting opening and reached the Billboard charts, although right after its release RSO announced they were closing their company and did so over the holidays.

The album was re-released several years later by Rhino and plans are now in progress for yet another release of the Star Wars Christmas album, ‘Christmas In The Stars’.
